Kindergarten Thematic Newsletter

December/January

Dear Parents,

We are beginning a new theme titled K- Production Co.  During this theme we will ask these essential questions:

·        Can we have everything we want?  Do we obtain our wants and needs the same way?

·        Do all people use the same goods and services?

·        Can all people be producers and consumers?

We will read big books each week of our theme.  The titles are listed below.

Shopping

Busy Street

As we read our big books we will focus on the following language arts competencies:

·        Use title to make predictions.

·        Confirm or adjust predictions after reading. 

·        Characters can be described by the way they look and act.

·        Create and write a story about a person, place or thing.

·        Segment words (c-a-t) and use phonetic spelling.

·        Demonstrate audience behavior.  

·        Review sight words and learn new words.

·        Learn more about the letters  P,p  U,u  F,f  and W,w.

In Mathematics, we will learn more about the quantity 7.  We will practice counting to 15.  We will sort coins and identify a penny and a nickel.  Three dimensional shapes will be identified and used in sorting activities.
