Dear Parents,

We are beginning a new theme called Construction Site.  During this theme, your child will learn the following concepts:

  • A shelter is something that protects living things from danger and weather.
  • Shelter is a basic need met in different ways by people.  (Nation/World)
  • Compare and contrast various types of shelters.
  • Most houses have a foundation/floor, roof, walls, windows and doors.

These are the big books for our theme:

  • Our Tree House
  • Harry’s House
  • Building a House
  • The Construction Worker

As we read our big books we will focus on the following language arts competencies:

  • Cover information and prior knowledge can be used to select books.
  • People read to find out  “how to” (follow directions to complete a task).
  • Recall and discuss author behaviors that lead to success.
  • Write “true” (non-fiction) stories.
  • Tell an original story with two or more events.
  • Letters:  Vv , Xx, Z,z and we will review all the letters we have learned.
  •  Review sight words and learn new words.

In Mathematics, we will work with quantities 11, and 12.  We will review combinations 4-8.   We will also work with lines, 2-D shapes and length/ height.

 We appreciate your support!
