Dear
Parents,
We are
beginning a new theme called Construction Site. During this theme, your
child will learn the following concepts:
- A
shelter is something that protects living things from danger and weather.
-
Shelter is a basic need met in different ways by people. (Nation/World)
-
Compare and contrast various types of shelters.
-
Most houses have a foundation/floor, roof, walls, windows and doors.
These
are the big books for our theme:

Our Tree House

Harry’s House

Building a House

The Construction Worker
As we
read our big books we will focus on the following language arts competencies:
-
Cover information and prior knowledge can be used to select books.
-
People read to find out “how to” (follow directions to complete a task).
-
Recall and discuss author behaviors that lead to success.
-
Write “true” (non-fiction) stories.
-
Tell an original story with two or more events.
-
Letters: Vv , Xx, Z,z and we will review all the letters we
have learned.
-
Review sight words and learn new words.
In
Mathematics, we will work with quantities 11, and 12. We will review
combinations 4-8. We will also work with lines, 2-D shapes and length/
height.
