Kindergarten Thematic Newsletter

May/June

Dear Parents,

We are beginning a new theme called Blooming Trees.  During this theme,    your child will learn:

  • Changes in temperature from one season to the next cause changes in the growth cycle of trees and plants.
  • In order to grow, trees need warmth, light, water and food (minerals).
  • Many animals use different parts of trees for food, shelter and protection.

We will read big books each week of our theme.  Their titles are listed below.

The Earth and I

Jasper’s Beanstalk

A Home In A Tree

Come Into My Garden

As we read our big books we will focus on the following language arts competencies:

  • Retell stories in multiple ways.
  • Continue to make and support predictions about the storyline and what happens next/last.
  • We will write to express our opinion.
  • We will review letters/sounds/sight words and use them in our writing activities.

In Mathematics, we will work with the number 15.  We will draw pictures to solve word problems.  We will also work with whole/ part relationships and use a clock to tell the time (hour).

The Kindergarten performance Assessment (KPA) will be given May 15- June 26.  There will be no homework during KPA testing or in June.  Please continue to read books, review sight words and concepts that we have learned through the year.

Thank you for your continued interest and support this year!

It has been a great year! J
