Kindergarten Thematic Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We are beginning a new theme titled  Kid’s Choice.  A theme titled Fall Trees  will follow.  During these themes, your child will learn the following concepts:

·        A good citizen is a member of a class, school, community or country who gets involved and shares responsibility for making his or her world a better place.

·        Voting is a process that involves registering, being informed, casting a ballot and tallying votes.

·        American citizens have the right and responsibility to vote, in order to be involved in making choices about leaders and other decisions which affect them.

·        A tree is a plant with a long wood stem that makes its own food and lives for a long time.  In the fall, changes in light and temperature cause deciduous trees to change.

 

We will read big books each week of our themes.  Their titles are listed below.

The Pledge of Allegiance

The Chick and The Duckling

Getting Together

Leaves 

 

As we read our big books we will focus on the following language arts competencies:

 

·        Identifying spaces between words and differentiating letters from words.

·        A prediction is a “smart guess” about what we can see.

·        “How to” look at photographs, art prints and pictures to created interesting stories.

·        Create, illustrate and help record endings to stories.

·        Discriminate & (re)produce sound patterns

·        Rhyme words

·        Review sight words and learn new words.

·        Learn more about the letters Y,y M,m ,O,o R,r L,l .

 

In Mathematics, we will:   Review numbers 1-10, identify and use  pennies, explore and make patterns, estimate and work on counting forward and backward.
