Reflections Program 2008 – 2009

Dear Parents,

Each year the National PTA sponsors Reflections, a cultural arts competition which encourages creative expression by students.  There are six artistic categories:  Literature, Photography, Visual Arts, Musical Composition, Choreography/Dance and Film/Video.

The theme for this year is “Wow!”.  Students may interpret the theme in any way they feel is appropriate and is in accordance with the PTA Reflections guidelines.  Although our PTA encourages student participation, the program is completely optional and is not a required school project.  All work must be the student’s individual and original production.

Awards will be given at the school and possibly county, state and national levels.  In each of the six categories the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention FGES winners for Primary (Kindergarten – 2nd grade) and Intermediate (3rd – 5th grade) Divisions will be submitted for county competition.  County winners will then be judged at the state level, and state winners go on to the national competition.

All entries are due by Wednesday, November 5th at 3:30 p.m. without exception.  Once judging is complete all participants and winners will be announced in the Falcon Flyer.  All participants will also be invited to and recognized at an awards ceremony.

If your child is interested in participating in Reflections, please complete and return the bottom portion of this form to your child’s teacher no later than September 25th.  A copy of the specific rules and guidelines, as well as the entry form will be returned home with your child.  Extra copies of the rules/entry form packet will be available at the front office throughout October.  In addition, the rules may be downloaded from the Maryland PTA website at:  www.mdpta.org, click on Reflections, then Reflections 2008 - 2009 forms; however, you must still obtain the FGES packet for our school-specific information and entry form.

Please do not label the student’s work with their name; this will ensure that the judging is completely unbiased.  Attaching the completed entry form to the work as described in the rules will be sufficient labeling.  If you have any questions about this program or how to prepare and submit entries, please contact Linda Stratford at 410-638-6989.

Good luck to all Fountain Green Reflections participants!
