YBES is a Green School

Spring Cloth Napkin Sale - April 12th through April 16th
The Green Gators are gearing up for this year's cloth napkin sales but we need some sewing help.  We have the fabric and thread but we need the fabric cut and sewn to create the napkins.  If you can help, please email Cheryl Roettger at vintagewd@comcast.net or call 410-877-1883.  Thank you!

Green Gators:  3/15/10

Snow, snow, finally gone!  The snowy weather kept the Gators inside for most of February and the beginning of March but the time was well spent deciphering animal tracks.  The Gators paced, bounded, hopped, and galloped so they could copy the way animals travel.  The exercise helped the Gators use the information to determine what animal made each track.

In between the rain drops, the Gators were able to get outside to clean out the YBES bluebird boxes.  Some repairs were also completed on the boxes and now they are ready for the birds and monitoring Gators.  The Gators are also preparing bird nesting material bags that they will be giving away at their booth during the Aberdeen Earth Day Celebration on April 17th.  The Celebration is held from 11 to 4 PM in Festival Park across from the Aberdeen Library.

Green Tip:  1/4/10
Here's another way to get the most out of those holiday cards.  You might choose to reuse rather than recycle them.  Cards with glitter or cellophane should not be recycled so those cards should be reused, if possible.  Cut the cards into strips to use as bookmarks.  Hole punch the top and add some yarn to finish the bookmark.  Cutting the cards into interesting shapes and then gluing them together to make holiday placemats is another use for old cards.  Covering the cards with contact paper allows you to use these placemats again and again.  One last tip requires some careful cutting and adult help!  By cutting the corners of the cards and folding the edges, you can make small gift boxes out of your cards.  These decorated boxes are ready to use for next year!
