Equity and Cultural Proficiency

The goal of the Office of Equity and Cultural Proficiency is to improve academic performance for all students through the efficient and effective use of resources and the delivery of instruction that is designed to address equity concerns in our culturally diverse school communities.

Each local school system must demonstrate full and rigorous compliance with all components of COMAR 13A.01.06, Educational Equity, in the areas of academic achievement and growth, leadership and human capital, school climate and culture, and educator and staff capacity. In addition, all school systems must address educational equity in the Local ESSA Consolidated Strategic Plan.

Cultural proficiency staff development is provided to all new support staff including bus drivers, food and nutrition workers, custodians, clerical and instructional employees. Our focus is the development of culturally responsive teachers, administrators, and support staff.

The Superintendent's Task Force on Equity is comprised of diverse community leaders who meet several times per year and serve as advisors to the Superintendent of Harford County Public Schools. The Task Force is charged with making recommendations that will ensure safe, supportive, and inclusive learning and working environments and a continuing focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion embedded throughout Harford County Public Schools.
