The Office of Drug Prevention Education works collaboratively with the following groups: |

| Adolescent Addictions' Counselors- The Harford County Health Department has partnered with the school system to offer drug assessments for youth suspended for drug policy violations or have been identified through the Student Assistance Program. . Harford County Cancer & Tobacco Community Coalition - The group's membership includes citizens from throughout Harford County who serve a variety of roles. The main purpose of the group is to develop and implement strategies to reduce tobacco use and cancer rates in Harford County. The HCPS system receives considerable grant funds to offer a variety of programs and materials to students and personnel. Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy - Harford County Government is committed to reducing drug use throughout the county. This office works closely with the schools to provide monetary support for drug prevention efforts. This office also provides programs as requested by parent groups, faculty, and staff. Elementary School Drug Facilitators - Each elementary school has designated one person to act as a resource and contact person for all information specific to drug prevention awareness. This teacher, counselor or nurse volunteer receives regular prevention updates and is responsible for disseminating pertinent information to their colleagues. Harford County Bar Association - Lawyers of Harford County have continued to show a keen interest in providing students of middle and high schools with current information specific to drug abuse. Harford County Liquor Control Board - A partnership was formed with this group for the purpose of providing high school students with presentations by members of the Liquor Board who are knowledgeable about underage drinking laws which impact the consumer as well as business owners. Highway Safety Committee - This group provides the school system with additional funds to encourage a safe and drug-free prom and graduation season. In addition, this group provides funds to the HCPS' Transportation Office to help promote school bus safety. LMB's Partnership for Families, Inc. - The local Management Board is very committed to making life better for Harford County youth and families. This group has provided the primary funding necessary for the After School Programs currently in place in the community of Edgewood and Magnolia. The two elementary schools and one middle school have offered After School programs for several years with funds provided by grants secured by the LMB. SADD/STARS Clubs - In addition to assuming the same roles as the Elementary Facilitators, one contact at each middle and high school serves as their school's drug prevention club advisor. The Clubs organize and conduct activities and meetings monthly to help promote drug prevention awareness. STARS stand for Students Taking a Responsible Stand. Substance Abuse Update Team - This team of classroom teachers and counselors representing all levels of schooling meet annually to develop programs, information packets, bulletin board displays, brochures,etc.. to build and increase awareness about the drug problems, prevention efforts and resources in Harford County. The information developed by this group is disseminated to students, parents and educators throughout the school year. Narcotics Anonymous - This organization provides the school system with brochures and booklets. These printed materials are sent to high school guidance offices. Harford County Sheriff's Department - This office works closely with schools to provide support for drug prevention efforts. School policing officers and officers from the Narcotics Task Force provide training and intervention to schools. The Narcotics Task Force sponsors a yearly monetary award for one senior in each high school who lives a drug-free lifestyle. Applications are sent to high schools in March. |
