Where is the real one, you might ask. Havre de Grace, with its long rich history and unique geographic location, is the home to a museum celebrating the hand carved water fowl decoys that have been carved and used in HdG for the past 300 years. Adjacent to the museum in a board walk around the edge of the Chesapeake Bay leading to the public dock area and a park. Also close by is the Concord Point Light House which has provided a beacon to sailors since 1827. The lighthouse is open on Sundays so visitors can climb the narrow stairs and ladder to the light room. Just across the street is found the Maritime Museum, displaying many artifacts that reflect the rich history of the town as an important port and crossing place for hundreds of years. At the northern end of Havre de Grace is the Susquehanna Lock House Museum where you can see how people lived in the 1800s. Guides will explain the many antiques that decorate the house. In the front yard is an existing section of the Tidewater Canal and a reconstructed swinging bridge. Finally, the Skipjack Martha Lewis is a wonderful way to relive the history of the upper bay. It is one of the only existing skipjacks on the bay and has been lovingly restored to be used for oystering and also as a living classroom for learning about the bay and its teeming life. Havre de Grace is certainly an excellent Harford County destination! Find many cultural events at Harford County Community College. Find a list of cultural events on their website.
