RUTH EISENHOUR

Ruth is a graduate of Homestead Elementary School, Bel Air Middle School, and Bel Air High School.  After earning her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in geology from James Madison University in Virginia, she returned to Harford County to teach fifth grade at Homestead Elementary School.  After six years at Homestead, she transferred to Harford Glen in 1994 and began her career as an environmental educator.  In 2000, she became Teacher-in-Charge of Outdoor Education.

Many years of overnight summer camp have prepared her for her role as the coordinator of the residential outdoor education program.  Ruth spent her first week at camp when she was ten years old, then returned every summer for the next thirteen years to become a counselor and eventually the program specialist at Chesapeake Center Camps in Port Deposit, Maryland.

Ruth is certified in Elementary Education, Outdoor Education, and Earth Science.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola College and has completed a variety of courses and workshops in the field of environmental and earth science.  She is currently a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
