Judy Center at Magnolia Elementary hosts grand opening event
The Judy Center at Magnolia Elementary School hosted its Grand Opening on October 28, 2014.  This is a new program in Harford County that promotes school readiness for children birth through age 5 and their families.  The Judy Center concept was created by the late Judith Hoyer, who was an early childhood advocate in Prince George’s County.  She believed that a key component to school success is early intervention.  She created the Judy Center Program from this belief.  Each county now in the state of Maryland has a Judy Center Program that provides early interventions for children birth through age 5.

The Judy Center Grand Opening was open to all families that live in the Magnolia Elementary School District.  They were able to enjoy a complimentary dinner funded by the Judy Center at Magnolia.  Families were actively engaged in speaking to vendors that will allow them to connect to resources that the county provides.  Superintendent Barbara Canavan, Sheriff Jessie Bane and Councilman Dion Guthrie were among the several distinguished guests that were in attendance.

The Judy Center program is fully funded through a grant from the Maryland State Department of Education.  The Magnolia Judy Center has a formalized partnership with local agencies, organizations and businesses in the Magnolia Community including the Health Department, Social Services, Catholic Charities, Child Care Links, Harford County Public Libraries, Head Start, the Infants and Toddlers Program, and the Office of Child Care.
