Joppatowne fifth graders net first place in Stock Market Game
Joppatowne Elementary School is pleased to announce that a fifth grade team of students won first place at the fall 2014 national level for elementary schools while participating in the Stock Market Game.

Mrs. Thompson’s entire 5th grade math class competed in the Stock Market Game, but one team of students came out in the lead in the last week of the game.  Team members included:  Gavin Peganoff, Keon Jordan, James Coffman, and Dakota Smith.  Each student received a medal and certificate of recognition at the Joppatowne Elementary School “Best Star” assembly in March.

In the Stock Market Game, all teams start with an imaginary $100,000 to invest in corporations on the New York, American and NASDAQ markets during a ten-week period in an attempt to increase the size of their portfolio.  The Stock Market Game is a hands-on learning tool to help students build a fundamental understanding of investing while providing them with real world skills in math.  The competition is organized by the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE).
