2016 Envirothon fall training held at Harford Glen
The 2016 Envirothon fall training was recently held at Harford Glen.  All HCPS high schools will be represented by a team in this year’s Envirothon program and will join Harford Christian and John Carroll to round out the field at 12 teams.

Participants in the fall workshop received training from the Envirothon Steering Committee members and local subject matter experts on the five Envirothon topics.  Teams had the opportunity to conduct water quality testing and macro invertebrate investigation in Wheel Creek for aquatics study.  Soil scientist were on hand at the soil pit for in-depth, hands-on, soil investigations.  Local forester Frank Lopez headed up the forestry session, and a wildlife biologist from APG provided insight into local wildlife life cycles and identification.

This year’s 5th topic, “invasive species and their effect on local ecosystems,” was also highlighted. Envirothon teams were able to see the effects of many invasive species on the campus of Harford Glen and the staff’s ongoing efforts to eradicate them.

Harford Glen will host this year’s 26th Annual Envirothon Competition in April.  For more information on Envirothon, please visit http://mdenvirothon.org/.
