Joppatowne High School girls attend Women of the World Festival at the College of Notre Dame
Young ladies from Joppatowne High School were empowered and inspired after hearing motivational speakers from around the world share their passions, struggles, and journeys at WOW - Women of the World Festival held at the Notre Dame of Maryland University and hosted by Debbie Phelps.

Some of the powerful speeches and quotes that were shared at the event encouraged young ladies from around the state to find at least one person who believes in their potential and to keep that person close.

Hilary Corna, a motivational speaker and author of One White Face, was one of the presenters at the festival.

Tanurah Plummer, a sophomore at Joppatowne High, said, “I enjoyed Hilary’s speech and listening to her the most.  It was interesting to see how much she went through to get to where she is today.”

Some of the inspiring quotes that resonated in the small group discussions included:
  • “Dare to achieve your goals. How can anyone help you with your dare if you don’t share it?”
  • “Give yourself permission instead of waiting for someone to give it to you.”
  • “With success comes sacrifice.”
  • “It’s the hard things in life that give you the biggest reward.”

Joppatowne High teacher Nitrease Quickley was the chaperone for the field trip experience. She summarized the occasion as one that left the young ladies who attended the festival knowing that, “One person, one situation, one idea, can change the world.”
