Hickory Elementary School Hosts Blood Drive
The 5th graders at Hickory Elementary School know that they can make a difference.  The students met with representatives from the American Red Cross and learned how vital blood is to our bodies.  They used this information as motivation to organize a blood drive event at the school in partnership with the American Red Cross.

Students created posters and fliers to send home to their families sharing the importance of donating blood.  On February 25, the school hosted the blood drive and the Red Cross collected 36 units of blood from staff, parents/guardians, and community members, which will be used to help save the lives of those in need.

The 5th graders were very involved throughout the entire process of the event, and many of them even donated an hour of their time to greet people and help out during the blood drive itself.

“The blood drive was important because we helped save lives,” commented 5th grader Samantha Sellers.

Give blood, the need is constant!
