Havre de Grace Elementary teacher first recipient of Teachers are Heroes award
ABC2 News recently launched a new recognition program, Teachers are Heroes, a 10-month program highlighting one Maryland school teacher each month who has gone above and beyond his or her job description and instilled a lifelong love for learning in Maryland students.

The first winner is our very own Chris Hedges, first grade teacher at Havre de Grace Elementary School!  Mr. Hedges was nominated by his principal Ron Wooden, and ABC2 and MECU representatives paid a special visit to Havre de Grace Elementary to present him his gifts and celebrate with his class.  Mr. Hedges is truly worth of this recognition, and we are so proud of him! Watch the story on ABC2 here: http://www.abc2news.com/mobile-showcase/teachers-are-heroes-award-recipient-receives-first-receipient

The program began in August 2014 and will run through June 2015.  Students, parents, principals, and even other teachers are encouraged to nominate deserving teachers through ABC2’s website at www.abc2news.com/teachersareheroes.  The program will be promoted on ABC2 for the 10-month duration, and monthly winners will be selected by a panel comprised of station representatives who will read through the nominations and choose winning entries based on merit and outstanding dedication to the teacher profession.  The monthly winning teachers will be awarded a $250 check to use toward classroom supplies, along with a plaque acknowledging their achievement. A reception will be held at the ABC2 studio at the end of the year for all recipients and their families, and the winners will be highlighted on ABC2 News and abc2news.com throughout the school year.

Spread the word about this program and nominate deserving teachers this school year. Questions about this recognition program or the nomination process should be directed to the ABC2 contact, Ally Martelli, at (410) 372-2388 or at ally.martelli@wmar.com.  Details on how to enter a deserving teacher will be announced via the news station in the coming weeks.
