Rental Information

Every child who participates in our instrumental music program will need an instrument in good playing condition. It is up to the parents to obtain an instrument for their child. Riverside Elementary School does not provide instruments for our instrumental music program. It is very important that students have a good quality instrument for our program. Parents can rent or purchase musical instruments. We encourage you to consider the following factors when selecting an instrument to purchase or rent:

*Cost and length of the rental period
*Total cost of the instrument (cash discounts vary from dealer to dealer)
*Dealer's repair and maintenance policies, including the availability of a "loaner" if extensive repairs are necessary.
*Whether or not the dealership has an onsite repair shop, or has to send repairs away, which could take much longer.

It is recommended that you compare purchase/rental plans from several stores. Most stores have a "rent to own" policy which allows you to rent the instrument while paying it off in payments. We would not recommend purchasing an instrument off an internet auction site or from a store that does not specialize in musical instruments. The Harford County Public School System does not recommend or endorse any particular store. It is up to the parent/guardian to decide where to obtain an instrument.
