String Instruments

String instruments are played using a bow, which is pulled across the strings to make a sound.  String players use finger positions on the fingerboard to play the correct notes.  String instruments are the only instruments that can be sized to the player, and come in four different sizes: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4.  Students who are interested in playing a string instrument will need to be measured to find the correct size instrument.  All string instruments look basically the same, but the sound changes as the instruments get larger.  Please click on the following links to learn more about the string instruments that are part of school orchestras:
