School Structure:

Joppatowne High School operates on a four-period day schedule. Students are enrolled in eight classes for the year. Some classes will meet daily for a semester, while other classes meet every other day. This schedule provides longer periods of instruction with fewer class changes.

About our School:
Joppatowne High School Mascot

Joppatowne High School, a National Blue Ribbon School, is located just off the I-95 corridor, approximately 10 minutes north of White Marsh and 20 minutes from Baltimore. The school’s diverse population reflects its surrounding dynamic community.

Approximately 30% of Joppatowne High School students attend 4-year colleges following high school, another 35% go on to 2-year colleges, with the remaining students attending vocational schools and entering the military.

We are exploring smaller learning communities at Joppatowne High. At the present time, we have a Ninth Grade Academy in place. The freshmen participate in a Freshman Seminar Course where they have the opportunity to explore and transition to high school.

The schedule at Joppatowne High operates in a two-semester block schedule. Students may earn up to four credits per semester in 90-minute classes.

We look forward to continue working together as a Mariner family so that our mission of providing each student with the education necessary to live a fulfilling and productive life is a reality.

Community Involvement:

JHS serves as the center of the Joppa- Magnolia community. The goal of JHS is to have partnerships that produce a sense of ownership in the community. J. Vinton Shafer is our major partner and has helped us on all projects throughout the year. They were given a Partnership Award by Harford County for their involvement.

In addition, Army Environmental Center employees at Aberdeen Proving Ground acted as mentors. They have conducted workshops at APG and JHS covering such topics as pesticides, wildlife resources, forest resources, soil science, water quality, and presentation skills. JHS and Cisco Systems have become partners to provide a high-tech training course for students. The Cisco Academy Program teaches high school students how to design, build, and maintain computer networks.

Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Program:

The mission of the Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Magnet Program is to provide to the students of Harford County and eventually to the State of Maryland, the ability to have access to career pathways in homeland security studies to offer them a better education and more choices to allow them to provide services back to the community, the State and the Nation.

The Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Magnet Program curriculum is scheduled to be piloted in the Harford County School District in the 2007-2008 school year...More Details
