AEP Vision:

The Alternative Education Program will be the leading provider of secondary alternative education services in central Maryland.

AEP Mission:

The Alternative Education Program is an exemplary, intensive, short-term program that provides tailored supports and services that fit the needs of each student. We believe in the exemplars and indicators adopted by the National Alternative Education Association in Exemplary Practices in Alternative Education: Indicators of Quality Programming (2009). Our goal is to utilize and unify parents, community, and home schools as a team to help each student increase academic achievement, improve behavior, as well as provide life, social, and vocational skills. In order for this mission to be actualized, students, AEP faculty, family, home schools, and community supporters must work together to:

  1. Create a safe, nurturing, and positive environment that is conducive to learning.
  2. Provide the academic services necessary for students to meet or exceed state standards (MSA, HSA, attendance, and graduation rate).
  3. Implement positive behavior interventions and supports as a means to promote, encourage and guide students in becoming caring, respectful, and responsible citizens.
  4. Create and provide a continuing partnership among students, parents, AEP staff, home schools, and community services to ensure that an appropriate continuum of services is being provided to meet individual student needs and goals, while in our program, transitioning to their home schools, or to another program.
