About our School:
You won't go far in the halls and classrooms of Havre de Grace Middle School before you see our motto, "…a place for learning" in writing and in action.
Student learning is evident as you observe teachers engaging students in exciting, relevant instruction. Our teachers are learning as well, meeting daily in grade level teams to know more about their students, and planning together for their success. Teachers also work in smaller teams that focus on deliberate and strategic professional development. Parents and the community are volunteering, participating in activities with their children, and involved with our active PTSA. This provides us with a united focus on continuous improvement and growing student achievement.
The students, staff, and community of Havre de Grace Middle School are committed to these ideals, and working together, are determined to see that every child achieves.
Community Involvment:
Because of the rich heritage of the area, Havre de Grace MS receives tremendous support from its community. A large number of parents come to school daily as participants in an extensive Parent Volunteer Program. The PTSA is a vibrant organization that sponsors major fundraisers to support field trips, instructional supplies, and equipment. They are a major part of our staff support program providing refreshments at faculty meetings, occasional luncheons, and other recognition for our dedicated staff.
The Havre de Grace Police Department participates in writing and then implementing an interdisciplinary program for our 6th grade called, 'Teens, Crime, and the Community'. The mayor and other officials of the City of Havre de Grace are frequent visitors to the school. Cytec Fiberite provides weekly mentoring for selected students, and other partnerships are being developed to further enrich our curriculum.
