YBES is a Green School

Green Gators Update: 1/4/10
This past fall, the Gators cleaned the school's campus by disposing of trash and recycling items found along the environmental trail and outdoor education center.  Time was also spent observing and identifying the trees located in the outdoor education center.  The Gators used tree ID guides and Internet sites to research our school's trees.  We hope to create a student-made brochure containing our research for the school's use and also add a tree identification label to each tree this spring.  Our tree labels should aid the Fallston community members who use our school's campus in identifying our school's trees.

Green Tip:  1/4/10
Here's another way to get the most out of those holiday cards.  You might choose to reuse rather than recycle them.  Cards with glitter or cellophane should not be recycled so those cards should be reused, if possible.  Cut the cards into strips to use as bookmarks.  Hole punch the top and add some yarn to finish the bookmark.  Cutting the cards into interesting shapes and then gluing them together to make holiday placemats is another use for old cards.  Covering the cards with contact paper allows you to use these placemats again and again.  One last tip requires some careful cutting and adult help!  By cutting the corners of the cards and folding the edges, you can make small gift boxes out of your cards.  These decorated boxes are ready to use for next year!
