This past week, I had the honor of attending McTeacher Night at the Havre de Grace McDonald’s.  Every year the McDonald’s Family Restaurant of Greater Baltimore recognizes the Teachers of the Years in each of the six counties they serve.  This is in addition to their sponsorship of the Teacher of the Year cruise, gala, and many other prizes and support they give to us throughout the year.

The night was amazing from the moment I walked in the door.  I was greeted by the area supervisor, Kevin Morrow, and the general manager, Evangeline Butler.  In addition, the friendly staff that night were decked out in McTeacher of the Year shirts!  They had decorated the restaurant with balloons, confetti, flowers, and signs fit for a party!

As the clock struck 5:00, the restaurant became filled with current students, past students, and future students along with their families.  I was so touched by how many people in the community came out to see me.  It was like one big family reunion as I got to see students, families, and coworkers I hadn’t talked to in years as well as continue to celebrate with those I currently see on a daily basis and hold near to my heart.

McDonald’s outdid themselves with their generosity.  As they wheeled out the cake, and people gathered around me, McDonald’s Corporation shared their deep respect and admiration for teachers.  I was presented with flowers, gifts, and a $500 gift certificate for school supplies.  In addition, my school will receive over $900 from the sales that evening.  This money will go a long way in bringing the best to our students at Havre de Grace.  I cannot thank McDonald’s and this community enough for the way you have recognized me and celebrated teachers.  This was a magical night!
