Lessons of the Holocaust
C. Milton Wright High German students attended the Lessons of the Shoah (LOTS) Workshop hosted by The John Carroll School on February 3.  Ms. Geczy of John Carroll sponsored this comprehensive seminar, which was attended by more than 300 students from 20 schools.

The take-away message was that we all need to speak up against bullying or harmful actions when we see them occur to prevent this from happening again to other groups.

There were many guest speakers who were experts on Holocaust studies with topics such as the warning signs of genocide, the psychology of hatred, the roles of collaborators, and witnesses.

Two Holocaust survivors gave their testimonies:  Esther Kaidanow, who hid with partisans in Yugoslavia, and Howard, her husband, who was a partisan in White Russia.  Their personal accounts were very painful and powerful to hear, and touched all those who heard of the hardships they endured and family members that were murdered.  The Kaidanows stressed the importance of standing up to bullies and hatred, the importance of an education, and the great freedom we enjoy in the USA.
