Brownie Troop 5280 creates new play area at Prospect Mill Elementary
As young leaders, Brownie Troop 5280, comprised of 12 girls who go to Prospect Mill Elementary, one girl who attends Hickory Elementary and one girl who attends a private school, identified a need in their community and worked together to purchase and dedicate a handicapped-accessible playground item Prospect Mill Elementary School.  That's called a Take Action project!

Funded by their cookie sales and community support, which amounted to approximately $400, the girls in this troop came up with a plan, pitched the idea to school administrators, and followed through to make it happen.  The experience was an outstanding opportunity for them to step up and be young leaders in the community.  The project was completely girl-led, with direction from supportive volunteers who “allowed the girls to have a voice."  That's what the Brownie Quest is all about.  It’s the perfect way to help our Girl Scouts build courage, confidence, character, and independence - and make the world a better place!

The new piece of playground equipment purchased by the Brownie Troop is a panel that allows students in wheel chairs to sit and spin panels, match shapes and play games.  The HCPS Facilities Department was also able to provide a handicap swing for the school’s playground.  After the cement was poured, the mulch was laid and the equipment was installed, the Brownie Troop hosted a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new play area.
