Havre de Grace Middle social studies teacher receives special honor

Mr. Timothy O’Brien of Havre de Grace Middle School was named Outstanding Teacher of American History in Maryland by the Maryland State Society Daughters of the American Revolution at their 109th Annual State Conference in Hunt Valley, Maryland on March 22. He received a certificate, pin and a monetary gift from MSSDAR, presented to him by State Regent Linda C. Mistler and State Historian Anne Henninger.

Mr. O’Brien was nominated by the local Governor William Paca Chapter and received several glowing nominations from his students and administrators.

He worked in the business world for many years before returning to Harford County with a desire to give back to the community where he was raised. He certainly does that in the classroom each and every day. Mr. O’Brien has taught in this county for 15 years and epitomizes the ideals of the best in teaching. His philosophy of teaching has more to do with the lives of ordinary people throughout the American experience than with wars and presidents.  In Mr. O’Brien’s classroom, history comes alive each and every day for his students.

Daughters of the American Revolution support education and patriotism through many such awards and scholarships each year. For further information on awards and scholarships, call 410-399-9727 or 410-399-4646.
