2009 SUMMER SWIMMING PROGRAM
For STUDENTS GRADES K-12

(must be age 5 by September 1, 2009)

Sessions
#1 June 22 to July 2 (no class 7-03) #2 July 6 to July 17 #3 July 20 to July 31
Instructions
Monday through Friday 10 days per session
(Session One is 9 days)
40 minutes per day
Cost and methods of payment
$52 per child for each 2-week session
$57 for out-of-county students

Please review the skill listings shown in the table below as a guide in selecting your child's class level. It is the expectation that students be able to fully demonstrate all of the skills listed at any given level before progressing to the next higher level. Please be advised that the Office of Physical Education cannot make decisions regarding class selection for registration purposes.

Level 1
Introduction to Water Skills

Enter and exit water safely. Open eyes under water and pick up submerged object. Swim on front/back using arm and leg actions. Float on front/back using arm and leg actions.

Level 2
Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side. Roll over from front to back, and back to front. Swim on side. Float on front and back. Tread water using arm and leg motions.

Level 3
Stroke Development

Jump into deep water from the side. Survival float. Butterfly kick and body motion. Dive from kneeling or standing position. Perform front and back glide.

Level 4
Stroke Improvement

Front and back crawl. Swim on side using scissors-like kick. Breaststroke, Butterfly, Elementary backstroke.

Level 5
Stroke Refinement

Standing dive. Pike surface dive. Butterfly and Sidestroke. Front flip turn. Breaststroke. Backstroke flip turn. Elementary backstroke. Tuck surface dive. Front and back crawl.

Level 6
Swimming & Skill Proficiency

Refines strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
