Harford County Schools is proud to announce the new Microsoft Student Advantage Program (Office 365 for staff) to students and staff. This program provides free access to Office 365 Pro Plus for students enrolled in school districts that purchase enterprise-level licenses. Harford County Schools meets this requirement!

Any student who is currently enrolled in the Harford County School District, or staff member currently employed by the Harford County School District is eligible and may download and install Office 365 Pro applications on up to 5 devices (PC, MAC, and/or mobile device).

How do Students and Staff Download the Microsoft Office 365 Software?

Important: Allow 15-30 minutes for installation

  1. Using the Internet Explorer web browser, go to the following website: http://portal.hcps.org
  2. Login with your HCPS credentials
    • PreK-Grade 2 Student: StudentID@student.hcps.org and the network password
    • Grade 3 – Grade 12 Student: username@student.hcps.org and your HCPS network password
    • Employees: username@hcps.org and your HCPS network password
  3. Click the "Install Now" button
  4. Check to ensure that you have available installations by looking at the computer name, operating system and installation dates. Remember: Each student only can install the software on 5 devices.
  5. Click on the drop-down menu and select the appropriate language.
  6. Click INSTALL.
  7. Once installation begins, the installation program will scan your computer for any previous versions of Microsoft Office.
  8. If you do not have to remove Office, your installation of Office 365 ProPlus will begin.
  9. Once the application is loaded, a progress box will appear as the software downloads the final settings. Please note that the speed of your connection will determine the speed of this part of the installation.
  10. Once all loading is complete, follow the steps (wizard or online prompts) to personalize your Office 365 ProPlus and begin using your software.

Who Is Eligible for the Microsoft Office 365?

Any student** who is currently enrolled in the Harford County School District or staff member currently employed by the Harford County School District is eligible to download and install Office 365 Pro applications on up to 5 devices (PC, MAC, and/or mobile device).

The Harford County School District has created accounts for all students currently enrolled.

  • Q:   What happens when a student leaves the Harford County School District?
    A:   Once a student leaves the school district, the Microsoft Office ProPlus subscription ends.
  • Q:   Can I install the software on more than one device?
    A:   Microsoft Office Pro Plus can be installed on up to 5 devices.
  • Q:   What are the PC requirements for Office 365 ProPlus?
    A:  
    • Windows 10 or Higher
    • 32-bit Office can be installed on 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems and 64-bit Office can only be installed on 64-bit operating systems.
    • 1 GHZ or faster x86 or 64-bit processor with SSE2 instruction set.
    • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) recommended, 2 GB RAM (64-bit) recommended for graphics features, Outlook Instant Search, and certain advanced functionality
    • 3 GB of available hard disk space
    • 1280 x 768 or higher resolution monitor

    A:  
    • A Mac computer with an Intel processor
    • Mac OS X version 10.13 or later
    • 1 GB of RAM recommended

    • DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if installing over a network)
    • 1280 x 768 or higher resolution monitor

Help

Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) cannot provide technical support for Office 365. This service is provided by Microsoft as part of the HCPS agreement with the company. The service is offered to you because you are a student or an employee of HCPS.

If you are unable to access Microsoft Office 365 from a personal device, please complete the following steps:

  • Attempt to login to Office 365 from a HCPS computer.
    • If successful, then the problem resides with your personal device. Please see "Contacting Microsoft Technical Support" below.
    • If unsuccessful, notify your teacher and/or Media Specialist.

Contacting Microsoft Technical Support

Contact Microsoft Office 365 Education support toll-free at (800) 865-9408. You will need to indicate that you are from the “@hcps.org tenant”. You will also be asked to provide your full HCPS username.

Free Student Email

Harford County Public Schools is currently providing email to all students in middle and high schools.

Student email is provided as a privilege for students to better collaborate and communicate with one another and their teachers for educational purposes. All email accounts provided by Harford County Public Schools are subject to review; automatically scanned for viruses; and filtered for content. Students are able to send and receive to anyone inside or outside our school system. Use of student email that does not follow the expectations outlined in the Responsible Use Procedure will result in loss of access to this privilege.
