Background checks and fingerprinting are conducted in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment within Harford County Public Schools. Our goal of continuously promoting the physical, social, and psychological well-being of our students is accomplished through the initiation of adequate background investigations of all personnel as required by law.

Fingerprint appointments are only available to HCPS new hires, volunteers as required by law, or when the Office of Internal Investigations notifies an individual of the need to reprint due to clarification. Maryland Certification

HCPS employees who have questions about certification, but whose positions do not require a certificate (non-teachers, substitute teachers, etc.), must contact the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Division of Certification and Accreditation, at (410) 767-0412. HCPS employees, whose positions require a certificate, please refer to the certification information located in the Human Resources/Certification Department section of the HCPS SharePoint site.

Resident Teacher Certificate Program

The status of Harford County Public School's alternative certification program is uncertain at this time.

Student Teacher Information (Applicable to Spring 2010 Interns Only)

Due to the inclement weather, the Student Teacher Orientation was cancelled and will NOT be rescheduled. However, we do require you to review the materials below. These include, but are not limited to, the Student Teacher Orientation presentation and the Online Application presentation which provides assistance to complete the online application. Take the time to save all of the documents for future reference as they will only be available online through March 31, 2010.

You MUST complete and return the Student Teacher Information Sheet by March 1, 2010. This form guarantees your invitation to complete a screening interview with a representative from HCPS. You may email the completed form to Jillian.Ellwood@hcps.org or send via courier to, Jillian Ellwood, A. A. Roberty Building/Human Resources Office.
