Magnolia Elementary School holds 2017 Black History Month Essay Contest

In celebrating the spirit of Black History Month, Magnolia Elementary School hosted its First Annual Black History Month Essay Contest. School Counselor Lance Hawkins was the contest coordinator.  Students from first to fifth grade participated in the contest and submitted essays about famous African Americans such as Harriett Tubman, Barack Obama, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali and Mae Jemison.

Each grade level received awards for first, second and third place. All winners made a special appearance on the school’s TV morning announcements. Within the school building, all the essays are on exhibit for other students to read and learn about African American culture.

The overall participation, level of commitment and enthusiasm showed by the students was awesome! Magnolia Elementary looks forward to next year’s essay entries and all the wonderful learning that will take place.
