Audiology and Hearing Services
Audiology Services - Test students referred who have failed hearing rescreen by school nurse/ speech pathologist and doctor reports no medical reason for hearing loss. Consult with school personnel regarding student with a previously identified, educationally significant hearing loss to see that appropriate accommodations are being made in school. Certify 02 or 03 as a disabling condition based on audiogram and functional hearing. Recommend, issue and set FM systems based on audiological testing, functional hearing, student's age and ability levels, and current personal amplification system and IEP goals. Consult with student's managing audiologist.
Itinerant Hearing Services - Provide consultative or direct services to students with an educationally significant hearing loss. This student must be certified as having either 02 or 03 as part of their disabling condition. This is a Related Service on IEP. Services may include some or all of the following: Aural Habilitation or Rehabilitation; Speechreading instruction; Training in use of FM systems for staff and student; Monitor use of student's personal hearing aids and/or FM systems in the classroom; Consult with school personnel regarding hearing impaired student's individual needs; Help staff understand roles of adults providing assistance to certain hearing impaired students in the classroom.
