Our “thoughtful educators” are a professional learning community who collaborate, reflect, adapt and focus their efforts to increase student achievement. Differentiated teaching and learning target student and staff needs. Staff development is guided by a school improvement plan that targets needs and growth in reading and math. Consistent review of data, “teachers talking to teachers about teaching,” and best instructional practices and efforts to strengthen parent and community involvement are reflective of continued growth.
Many additional resources and programs provide support for student achievement. Teacher specialists, paraeducators, technicians, a home visitor, ReAch, a reading tutorial, Pre-Kindergarten and all day Kindergarten, school-wide enrichment, extended day activities: Hot Spot, homework and thematic crafts, Reading Academy, diagnostic/prescriptive reading intervention, a computer lab and classroom computers, and a school health readiness component are integral to school effectiveness.
Our children, parents, and staff are involved in activities that promote self-esteem, competence, and character education. The student council, safety patrol, media/technology/classroom helpers, Patriots Program, Pony Pals – a mentoring program are highlighted. Our PTA provides cultural activities and assemblies through fundraisers. Family Reading Night, Family Math Night, Reading and Math Incentives are designed to augment reading and math. Our volunteer program is growing. Magnolia Elementary is a caring school family that celebrates the contributions of each school family member.
