School Structure:

For the implementation of effective instruction a block schedule is used during the school year. Students are regrouped for instructional purposes and interventions are provided when needed to all students to insure student success. A full day kindergarten is provided with two half-day sessions of pre-kindergarten. The school is also a regional center for Infants & Toddlers, Child-Find, the Early Intervention Program and the Autism Class for toddlers.

About our School:
Hall's Cross Roads Elementary School Mascot

Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary is a historic landmark in Harford County. Hall’s Cross Roads continues to be a learning hub of the Aberdeen community. Supported by a high quality staff, we draw strengths from our diverse community, and continue to work together to unite our students, families, and community partners. Our school focus continues to be creating differentiated learning experiences that produce high levels of achievement for all students.

Our focus is on improving instruction in the areas of language arts and mathematics and differentiating instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. With the additional support and resources from Title I we are able to provide our students with a full-time math specialist, reading specialist, and gifted and talented teacher. We are fortunate to have a full-time mentor teacher who provides support and additional resources for all new and master teachers. We are also able to provide research-based interventions to students who need additional support as well as research-based professional development to our “highly qualified” staff. We are a Proud Title I School!

This year, we will continue moving ahead at a rapid pace to incorporate high levels of technology in more classrooms. We currently have Promethean Interwrite Virtual White Boards and televisions mounted in every classroom to support instruction. In addition, we have added document cameras to teacher workstations and have two mobile wireless laptop labs for use in classrooms. We also continue to use assistive technology, such as FM sound systems and digital cameras to augment learning opportunities in many classrooms celebrating the multiple intelligences and learning styles of all our students. With innovative scheduling, teachers are given intentional time each day for planning and examining student work. Our work with PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) combined with the Baldrige process-driven approach has involved the entire school community in the school improvement process while offering opportunities to enhance our teaching techniques.

With great excitement and a passion for teaching and learning, we expect continued progress and success for all students. We are excited about continuing to offer the best elementary educational program possible for our students.

Community Involvment:

Community/parent involvement is a major factor in the success of our students at HCRES. Our community encompasses the staff of the school, citizens, Aberdeen Proving Grounds military and civilian work force, local businesses, churches and organizations. The parents at our school are involved in attending workshops, participating on the Parent Involvement Committee, PTA, School Improvement Team and other activities sponsored by the school and the Home Liaison.

Citizens throughout the community serve on school committees, volunteer in and out of the classrooms and are active participants in our school activities. Local businesses include The Boys and Girls Club of Aberdeen, Frito-Lay, Clorox, Wal-Mart, the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, APG and our newest business Aberdeen Proving Grounds Federal Credit Union. These businesses help promote and support our staff and parents as we strive to provide the best education for our students.
