PTA SUMMER GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

August 16, 2004

Call to order: 1:40 p.m.

ATTENDANCE: Kathy Mohan, Louann Clotsworthy, Patricia Smith, Jennifer Olin, Gina Bateman, Pat Naplon, Debby Lawrence, Wendy Greene, Tracy Long, Lisa Whiston, Michele Martin.

WELCOME: Kathy Mohan welcomed committee chairpersons. Sign-up sheets for first week of school help in cafeteria and with bus duty were distributed. Mrs. Mohan shared notes from Executive meeting with Committee Chairs. Motion to have meetings with chairs to approve grade level enrichment spending and guidelines created. Motion accepted.

BUDGET: Youth’s Benefit PTA Financial Report as of 6/30/04 was distributed. Youth’s Benefit PTA Grade Level Enrichment Expenditures as of 6/30/04 were also reviewed (attached).

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Assemblies:  There will be three assemblies this year. Sept- storyteller; Jan.- drama, and a music and/or dance presentation in the spring.

Beautification: Trisha Smith states that the sidewalk in the back of the school needs to be gifted to school in order to avoid any possible lawsuits from accidents. She is working on a grant to get funds for flowers in pots around school.

Bingo: planned for fall (Nov. 5th) and sometime during April.

Book Fair: Norene Cusik reports that that the Book Fair will take place over two weeks, with Oct. 11-14th being the preview dates. The next week is when purchases can be made. She will investigate finding a volunteer to run a spring book fair.

Box Tops: Michele Martin shares that the box top company is now offering a credit card that can be used to collect points for school. She plans on running a raffle on Back to School Night.

Fun Run: Patty Burgess has planned the Fun Run for Oct. 30th. She requests that we ask for more volunteers in the first issue of the Gatoraid.

Holiday Shop: Gina Bateman is planning the shop for the first weekend in December. The option of opening on a Friday evening was discussed. She would like to have pictures with Santa this year. Gina will contact the High School to enlist student volunteers, as they can earn community service hours.

New Student: Jenn Olin will be the new chairperson. She will need guidelines/ideas for getting started.

PEP: A new 2nd grade teacher will need to be assigned. New parent chairpersons are needed for 2nd and Kindergarten.

Playground: Both primary and Int. chairs are starting to call for volunteers. A back-up program will need to be put in place for no-shows, as the students can lose their playtime when a volunteer is absent. Each member of the committee will be on call as a back-up helper for one week per person this year.

Yearbook: No money was given from last year’s supplement. The old chairperson needs to be contacted to discuss funds. The new chairperson attended a workshop this summer. She shared that a new cost of $20.60 per yearbook would enable her to utilize a website with color photographs. A used book sale is suggested to help raise money for the extra cost.

Yankee Candle: Jaime Bobo plans the sale in March.

FIRST PTA MEETING: September 13, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS: Back to school night Sept. 8th and 9th. Sportswear sales, membership, box top raffle, and Yearbook information will take place.

The Star Citizen program will continue this year. Buttons, instead of pins, will be distributed to star students.
