The Science and Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School is home to county’s University of Maryland Mathematics Competition Winner
Every autumn, since 1979, the University of Maryland organizes a High School Mathematics Competition, open to high school students enrolled in Maryland or the District of Columbia. The Competition provides students stimulation, feedback, and the opportunity for achievement.

The competition consists of two examinations. Approximately 2,000 students take the Part I examination. Students who score well on the Part I exam are invited to participate in Part II of the Competition (a considerably more challenging exam). The exams require a sound knowledge of high school mathematics and mathematical insight and ingenuity.

This year, Emmy Smith, a senior at the Science and Mathematics Academy (SMA) at Aberdeen High School, competed against 248 students, including three SMA classmates, in Part II of the competition. Emmy finished in the top half of all competitors and was the #1 student in Harford County.

Way to go, Emmy!  Congratulations!
