Registering Your Child for Kindergarten

Beginning in the 2006-07 school year, all of our kindergarten programs became full day. Kindergarten registration is held on the first Friday of the month of May. This year, the first Friday is May 1, 2009. The legal age for kindergarten attendance in the public school system is at least five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2009. Schools have some different procedures for the kindergarten registration process. If you are new to Harford County and have arrived over the summer months, school offices are open 8:00 AM until 4 PM. Register your child as soon as possible during the summer months. Bus routes may be found on the HCPS website. To register your kindergarten age child (ren), all schools require your child's birth certificate, social security card, and immunization records. You will also be required to bring your drivers' license and proof of residency. It is recommended that you contact the elementary school in your area by phone for further information before registering your child.

Beginning April 1, 2009, the early admission process will change for kindergarten and first grade. The application packet contains all deadlines and procedures for the application.

The request for Early Entrance to Kindergarten or Advanced Placement into First Grade may be made beginning the first Friday in May until the first Friday in June of the current school year. Parents should communicate with the school to obtain the application packet and specific procedures for initiating the early admission process.

If you miss K Registration Day (May 1st), you may register your child in the office any school day from 9:00 - 3:00.

Church Creek Elementary	410.273.5550	Registration packages are available after April 1st. These may be picked up in the office by a parent or guardian or a package may be sent home with an older sibling attending the school. On May 1st, parents with last names A-M are asked to arrive at the school between 9 AM and Noon and last names N-Z are asked to arrive between Noon and 3 PM.

Parents with last names A-M should are asked to arrive at school between 9 – 11:45 AM and last names N-Z are asked to arrive between 12:30 - 3:00 PM. If you are unable to register on May 1st, parents may register at the school any day from 9:00 AM -3:00 PM thereafter.

Emmorton Elementary	410.638.3920	Pre-registration forms for new kindergarten students are sent home with current students in March. The form may also be obtained by contacting the school office. Registration packets, including necessary registration forms and instructions, are mailed to pre-registered students in mid-April. A designated time to register on May 1st is also included in the packet.
Forest Hill Elementary	410.638.4166	Pre-registration Kindergarten Round-Up form is sent home with all current students in March. A pre-registration form may be obtained by calling the office. Registration packages will be mailed or sent home with older siblings on April 20th to those who have pre-registered. On May 1st, parents with last names A-F are asked to arrive at the school between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, last names G-K between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM and the last names L-Z between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Registration packages are available at the school office on May 1st.

Parents who have pre-registered will be given an appointment time for Registration Day. The hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Fountain Green Elementary	410.638.4220	Notices begin appearing at the end of March for students with older siblings attending the school for pre-registration. Pre-registration forms can be downloaded from the school’s website http://www.hcps.org/fountaingreen/. Registration packets are available mid-April for parents to pick up in the school. With the package is a letter that indicates an appointment time for May 1st.
George D. Lisby Elementary At Hillsdale	410.273.5530	Kindergarten registration packets are available the 3rd Monday in April. Prekindergarten packets are available the first Friday in May. Registration for kindergarten and application for prekindergarten begins the first Friday in May. No appointment is necessary.
Hall's Cross Road Elementary	410.273.5524	Pre-Registration information is published in the April school newsletter to parents. A letter is also sent out mid-April with pre-registration and registration information. Registration packages are available at the school on May 1st, or call to make an appointment.
Havre de Grace Elementary	410.939.6616	Flyers are sent to the local pediatricians’ offices, Head Start, day care centers, grocery store bulletin boards, church bulletin boards and home with the student population. Kindergarten packets are currently available in the office. Prekindergarten packets will be available on Friday, May 1, 2009. Registration for kindergarten and applications for prekindergarten will take place in the school lobby from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. No appointment is necessary.

If you did not complete pre-registration information from the school newsletter, please call the school for pre-registration information. Pre-registration packets will be mailed in early April. Appointment time is assigned and mailed with the pre-registration packet..

A form may also be obtained by contacting the school in March. Registration packets will be mailed to those who have pre-registered and a registration time will be assigned between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM on Registration Day. Jarrettsville Elementary	410.692.7800	Pre-registration forms are sent home beginning mid-February. Pre-registration information is also published in the March school newsletter and advertised on our outdoor school sign. Kindergarten packets for pre-registered students may be picked up at the school office anytime in April. Parents should come in to register on May 1st anytime between 9 AM and 2 PM. If this time is inconvenient, please call the school office at 410-692-7800 to schedule an appointment.

The prekindergarten program will be half day sessions only. Application/registration times are 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily, Monday through Friday. Further information is available at the school.
Meadowvale Elementary	410.939.6622	Prekindergarten application and kindergarten registration packets will be available beginning May 1st. The packets can be picked up in the office by a parent/legal guardian or a packet may be sent home with sibling that attends Meadowvale. Prekindergarten applications and kindergarten registration on May 1st will be in Meadowvale’s Parks and Recreation Room from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Tours will be offered that day at 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM.

Packets are mailed to pre-registered students in mid-April. A letter that indicates an appointment time for May 1st is included with the package. Call the school for questions.
North Bend Elementary	410.692.7815	Kindergarten packets will be available for pickup in our office the second week of April. Packets will be sent home with pre-registered siblings at that time. Registration will be held on May 1st from 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Please call the school’s office to schedule a 15 minute appointment for May 1st.
North Harford Elementary	410.638.3670	Registration for kindergarten will take place 9 AM - 3 PM on May 1st. Appointments are not necessary. Prekindergarten application packets will be available beginning at 9 AM on May 1st. Pre-kindergarten applications are not available prior to May 1st.
Prospect Mill Elementary	410.638.3817	You can contact the school to have a packet sent home or they can be picked up in the office. Registration will be held on May 1st between 9:15 AM. and 2:45 PM. Children with last names A-K may register from 9:15-12:00; last names L-Z may register from 1:00-2:45 If you are unable to register on May 1st, you can register any day between 9:15 AM and 2:45 PM.
