School Structure:
Lisby-Hillsdale students in self-contained classrooms follow a modified traditional elementary instructional schedule. Team/collaborative teaching and daily common planning times for teachers at each grade level support the instructional program.
About our School:
“We are the pride of our community, expecting academic excellence while providing a safe, welcoming environment where a love of learning is visible and contagious,” as stated in our Vision Statement.
As our Mission Statement says, “Our dedicated staff provides quality learning experiences for all members of our school family within a caring environment, setting high expectations for achievement and social interactions.”
To ensure improvement in student achievement, academic data is constantly being monitored. Staff development and instructional strategies are then designed to support the needs of the students. Instruction is delivered by highly qualified teachers and paraeducators in alignment with No Child Left Behind. With a school-wide behavior management plan and intentional teaching of Character Education, our students uphold the school promise: I promise to follow all school rules, take responsibility for my work and my actions, and show respect for myself and others. I will strive to be the best person I can be – for myself, my family, and my school.
As a School Wide Title 1 School, George D. Lisby Elementary School at Hillsdale qualifies for additional programs and staff members. We have a very dedicated PTA and there continues to be an increase in parent involvement and community and business partnerships.
As shown above, it does take a whole village, or in this case a whole staff and community. George D. Lisby Elementary School at Hillsdale is truly a “great place to learn” and it is a great place to be!
Community Involvement:
The PTA supports and supplements the instructional program for the benefit of all students including providing funds for cultural arts programs and field trips. A dedicated group of parent and community volunteers also work throughout the school to assist our students.
Cooperation with Notre Dame College and Harford Community College provides for student interns to receive first hand experience with the world of teaching. Students from Aberdeen High School often fulfill their community service requirements by volunteering in a variety of roles. Parks and Recreation and community groups use the building and grounds after hours. The school is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and continues to seek and foster local business partnerships to enhance student achievement.
