About our School:
Havre de Grace Elementary School has been in existence in historic Havre de Grace for over 50 years. We are a community-based institution, providing inclusive, meaningful, and engaging instructional opportunities for our diverse student population. We have three great natural resources: our students, our families, and our staff.
Our school has many fiscal resources that are available through our status as a Title One school and the community resource programs serving our school. School programs include a ReAch for Reading Program which provides one-on-one coaching for students in first and second grades by paraprofessionals specifically trained to support young children in reading. We have a Classroom Support Program which includes two very small structured settings for specifically identified students with behavioral issues. We also have a full-time enrichment teacher along with a reading specialist, a math specialist, a speech and language pathologist, a Title One teacher specialist, a Title One Home visitor, a half-time mentor teacher, and an instructional facilitator. Our special area instruction includes qualified staff in the areas of library media, one full-time physical education teacher plus one extra day of physical education time, one full-time vocal music teacher and one extra day of vocal music, one part-time band teacher and one part-time strings teacher, and one art teacher. We have a paraprofessional who also implements instruction support to our children in the technology lab. We have three inclusion special educators who are supported in their work by three additional paraprofessionals. We have two, half-day pre-kindergarten programs and four, full-day kindergarten programs.
Our building is fully wired and on line. Our children have access to the Internet and our teachers have intercommunication through system-wide and school-wide e-mail. Our staff provides time in the mornings and after school to run clubs on different topics, including chess, Spanish, and dance, just to name a few. We also have a Teen 2000 mentoring program and service support effort for families in need. Havre de Grace Elementary functions as an integral part of the greater Havre de Grace community. We are proud of our programs and our involvement with our school families. We are a wonderful place for children to grow!
Community Involvement:
The PTA is working diligently to recruit new membership to support its programs for our school. An ambitious group of volunteers, led by the Home Visitor, provides countless hours of time and energy assisting teachers, students, and administrators.
School business partnerships, such as Huber Chemical Corporation, Upper Chesapeake Health Services, Villa Maria and Family and Catholic Charities, the Havre de Grace Police Department, McDonald's, The Bank of Rising Sun, the Havre de Grace Lions Club, and Vision Associates, have all contributed time and services to our school community. We are also working to build greater interest, trust, and involvement of the parent community. Working together, anything is possible for our students!
