School Structure:

Meadowvale’s master schedule is designed to support common planning, co-teaching and intervention in order to best meet the individual needs of the students. From the youngest students in Pre-Kindergarten to our 5th graders, Meadowvale provides an environment for high achievement by providing quality instruction.

About our School:
Meadowvale Elementary School Mascot

Meadowvale Elementary is situated on 13 acres just outside the historic city of Havre de Grace and near the confluence of the beautiful Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay. This community school is comprised of a supportive parent group, PTA, stable experienced faculty/staff, community partnerships and diverse student body. With the support of all, the students, pre-k through grade 5, benefit from a quality and challenging education.

The school improvement plan provides focus on the specific needs and strengths of the student body. Meadowvale students are actively engaged in their daily learning which is differentiated to meet the needs of all students in the class. Additionally, enrichment and intervention opportunities are available. Traditionally, the students of Meadowvale have demonstrated on State and local assessments the culture of high student achievement. Meadowvale staff celebrate the students at all levels of ability and seek ways to challenge everyone.

Renovated in 2001, the facility is updated and improved offering state of the art technology. Each classroom is equipped with a ceiling mounted projector to allow for the integration of technology into the daily lessons as well as a teacher computer and 3 student computers. Additionally, our 2nd-5th grade classrooms and the media center have Interactive White Boards further enhancing the utilization of quality technology on a daily basis. A computer lab with 25 computers is available for class use, as well. The media center houses six computers and the media specialist supports computer integration by providing instruction in technology for the students. Internet capability allows teachers to provide greater opportunities to the students throughout the instructional day.

Meadowvale offers many opportunities for students to become life long learners with not only the academic but with the arts and special area with instruction in vocal music, instrumental, band, art, media and physical education. Additionally, students are recognized and celebrated with a school wide character education program. The PTA sponsors events that provide the chance for families to be involved in school. Cultural arts events, extra curricular activities and field trips further enrich the student’s experience. Meadowvale students are provided a well rounded education in a welcoming environment centered on children. The motto in 1959 when Meadowvale first opened was ‘what we learn today, we use tomorrow’. Meadowvale continues that tradition today.

Community Involvement:

The students at Meadowvale benefit from strong community support. The PTA is an active and dedicated group that supports our school always focusing on all our students. There are also several partnerships within the community at large fostering positive relationships within our school. The Vulcan Materials quarry has supported the school for many years. The recent involvement has included the opening of a wetlands trail behind the school, collaboration in building a marquee in front of the school, campus beautification, partnership with recycling and participation/support in various school activities. Additionally, Meadowvale formed a partnership with the Air Force detachment on Aberdeen Proving Ground. The Air Force detachment has supported our Patriot program as well as supporting our students as readers. During the 2008-09 school year, Meadowvale formed a partnership with the Carson Scholarship Foundation thanks to the recommendation of the Mayor of Havre de Grace and the support of Mr. and Mrs. Friedman of Stack and Store to create a well utilized Ben Carson Reading Room. Finally, Meadowvale is fortunate to be located in Havre de Grace as the city government is a true support and partner. The many partnerships Meadowvale is fortunate to benefit from have a positive and enduring effect on the students.

In addition to the partnerships, Meadowvale students participate in service projects to support the community. Adopting troops in Iraq, food drives, hat/mitten tree, recycling and supporting families less fortunate are some examples of how the students are involved in the community.
