North Harford Elementary School
Soaring on the Wings of Success
School Structure:
Our schedule enables grade level teams to meet at least once a week to plan and evaluate instruction. Our first grade team uses an instructional assistant to provide extension activities and create smaller groups for reading instruction.
About our School:
North Harford Elementary School is nestled in northern Harford County between North Harford Middle School to our right and North Harford High School to our left. These three schools make up the North Harford Schools’ campus and work very closely with each other. North Harford Elementary has successfully served the families in this region for 25 years. Our students work on the three Cs of learning: they all know that they are capable, they all know that they are contributing to their future, and they all know that they are the connection between school and home.
North Harford Elementary staff, students, and parents are committed to providing an inviting, supportive, challenging and fun school environment. A dedicated staff, students who are committed to learning, a supportive PTA, and an extensive parent volunteer program (averaging over 50,000 volunteer hours) all contribute to valuable learning opportunities. Student Achievement is the heart of our school improvement plan. Our focus is in Language Arts; improving written composition and developing vocabulary. We are also creating Professional Learning Communities to address the focus areas of our school improvement plan.
We provide a well-rounded program of which we are very proud. We have a 25-station computer lab, 27-member orchestra, 63-member band, 107-member chorus, a Home Visitor program, and the Hot Spot after school program which serves 40 children.
Our students work on Self Control, Organization, Achievement and Responsible Behavior as they “SOAR on the Wings of Success,” our school motto.
Community Involvement:
Our school greatly benefits from strong parental support, an active PTA, and many dedicated volunteers. Last year, our 175 volunteers worked for a combined total of over 50,000 hours! This type of dedication is indicative of the character of the community.
Our PTA insures that we are financially able to provide a field trip for every student and a cultural events throughout the year. The community uses our building in the evenings through Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Parks and Recreation activities.
