School Structure:

Aberdeen High School operates on a four-period day schedule. Students are enrolled in eight classes for the year. Some classes will meet daily for a semester, while other classes meet every other day. This schedule provides longer periods of instruction with fewer class changes.

About our School:
Aberdeen High School Mascot

Aberdeen High School’s philosophy of education recognizes and responds to our community of diverse learners with consideration to the demands of an increasingly complex and constantly changing technological society. The beliefs and daily operations of the school hinge upon the necessity of life-long learning in a spirit of cooperation among students, community, and academic leaders.

The Freshman Academy is led by a collaborative group of staff members whose goal is to increase the success of ninth graders as they enter high school. The School of Math, Science, and Technology recognizes and responds to our diverse students with consideration to the demands of an increasingly complex and constantly changing technology society. The School of Humanities, Performing and Visual Arts recognizes that our students possess their unique qualities of creative expression.

In its recent selection as a nationally recognized “All American City”, Aberdeen cited education as the underpinning to this award. An active PTO, Sports Booster Club, and similar support organizations further benefit the students.

The school year is divided into two semesters of 18 weeks each. Credits are semesterized, giving the student the opportunity to earn 16 half-credits annually. Students take eight courses each semester within a rotating four-block daily schedule. Classes are 45 or 90 minutes in length.

Community Involvment:

In its recent selection as a nationally recognized "All American City," Aberdeen cited education as the underpinning to this award. A strong bond exists between the school, the town, the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Parks and Recreation, and numerous civic, business, and religious groups. Mutally developed partnerships have led to the completion of several communitydriven projects. An active PTO, Sports Booster Club, Band Booster Club, and similar support organizations further benefit the students. Community input is solicited in the decision making process and parents play a vital collaborative role in the operation of the school. Additionally, volunteers from all segments of the community give time as tutors, mentors, and coaches at the school.

Science and Mathematics Academy

The Science and Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School opened its doors to its first class of freshman in the Fall of 2004. The Academy has been three years in the making, beginning with a concept proposed by the Army Alliance and other science professionals associated with Aberdeen Proving Ground. Federal, state, and local funds have supported the effort to bring this unique educational opportunity to students and staff.

The program provides students with the opportunity to experience challenging coursework in science, mathematics, and technology with an emphasis on research and real world application. Regular contact with practicing scientists and mathematicians is a cornerstone of the program and seniors will complete a capstone project of original research under the mentorship of professionals in their chosen area of investigation.

Please visit the Official Web Site of the Science and Mathematics Academy for a complete listing and description of all programs, academic coursework, student and parent organizations, services, athletics, activities, news and events.
