School Structure:
Edgewood High School operates on a four-period day schedule. Students are enrolled in eight classes for the year. Some classes will meet daily for a semester, while other classes meet every other day. This schedule provides longer periods of instruction with fewer class changes.
About our School:
Edgewood High School has a large number of programs and initiatives that enable students to be successful and promote academic achievement. A full range of Advanced Placement and Honors courses in Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and English are available for student selection. Tutoring programs and academic assistance are provided by the National Honor Society and faculty on a daily basis. The 9th grade team supports at-risk students. The Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Scholars programs encourage academic success and planning for future opportunities.
Career and Technology programs are available in the areas of Child Care, Foods, Clothing, Accounting, Computer Programming, Office Technology, Business, and Work Experience. Tech Prep programs are to be offered in Child Care, Accounting, and Computer Information Systems. The rigorous Academy of Finance has recently been added to Edgewood High’s instructional program. Our school is the only one in Harford County to offer this program.
Opportunities exist for students interested in music, drama, and art. A diverse offering of cocurricular and extracurricular activities including sports in every season are provided to the students.
At Edgewood High, a caring faculty and staff seeks to provide avenues for all of our students to experience success.
Community Involvement:
In the past several years, EHS parents have worked diligently to establish a PTSA and Boosters organization. Approximately 200 parents, students, and teachers participate in these organizations. The PTSA and Boosters have planned monthly meetings with an agenda to help support the educational program. The Boosters have raised considerable funds to provide the school with much-needed athletic equipment and a new stadium scoreboard. The PTSA sponsors the annual student talent show, and uses the funds to pay for two scholarships and the After Prom Party. Parent volunteers work numerous hours at school events and athletic contests to raise funds which will enhance the athletic and music programs.
A number of community businesses support EHS through the mentoring program, financial support of Booster Club initiatives, providing scholarships, and through wide-ranging support of the Academy of Finace Program. The GAP, a national organization, has also agreed to participate as one of the business partners for the school. EHS also receives support from many other businesses in the Edgewood commercial areas for student portfolios, yearbook sponsorships, and school newspaper advertisements.
