MSDE Performance Report (Coming Soon)

School Structure:

Patterson Mill High School operates on a four-period day schedule. Students are enrolled in eight classes for the year. Some classes will meet daily for a semester, while other classes meet every other day. This schedule provides longer periods of instruction with fewer class changes.

About our School:

Patterson Mill High School will offer the same comprehensive high school program that is currently offered at all of our Harford County High Schools. In addition to the comprehensive program there will be some site-specific programs introduced that will mesh with the design of the building.

There will be more details given at a later date regarding these site-specific programs. Patterson Mill will also offer a wide and varied range of extracurricular and club related activities. These will include experiences in music, drama, fine arts, publications, mass communications, and other areas that reflect student interest. Additionally, Patterson Mill High School will support a full compliment of Junior Varsity teams its opening year of 2007-2008 with some Varsity Teams limited to the areas of: Swimming, Golf, Tennis and possibly Track and Field. These offerings would be contingent upon student interest and skills. In the second year of operation (2008-2009 Academic Year) we will offer the full compliment of Junior Varsity and Varsity Interscholastic sports.

The high school academic program will focus on seven cornerstone strategies that have been linked to successful high schools across this nation. These seven cornerstone strategies will form the foundation for improving the performance of each student and fostering the development of a high school culture that accentuates the Three R's of public education today. These R's stand for: Rigor ~ Relevance ~ & Relationships.

The seven cornerstone strategies are as follows:

  1. We will focus on communicating the Core Knowledge that every high school student will need in order to be successful in his post secondary experience. To this end we will establish the essential learning a student is required to learn in order to graduate, and adjust the curriculum and teaching strategies to realize that goal.
  2. We will make connections with students. To this end we will increase the quantity and improve the quality of interactions between students, teachers, and other school personnel.
  3. We will personalize student planning. To this end we will implement a comprehensive advisory program that ensures that each student has frequent and meaningful opportunities to plan and assess his or her academic and social progress with faculty, staff, and administration.
  4. We will adapt to differences. To this end we will ensure that teachers utilize a variety of instructional strategies and assessments to accommodate individual learning styles and preferences.
  5. We will incorporate flexible use of time. To this end we will implement schedules that are flexible to accommodate to a wide range of teaching strategies that are consistent with the ways students learn most effectively and that allow for effective teacher teaming, lesson and unit planning, and meaningful dialogue and contact with students.
  6. We will structure our leadership team in a distributive manner. We will institute structural leadership changes that allow for meaningful involvement in decision making by students, teachers, family members, and the community at large. We will work on establishing lines of communication that foster goodwill and openness.
  7. We will encourage continuous professional development. To this end we will align comprehensive, ongoing professional development programs that accentuate county and state mandates along with addressing the needs of our students.

Patterson Mill High School will be a visionary school, rich with energy and enthusiasm, and high expectations for all. We will promote self worth and dignity within our student population. We will infuse through curriculum and extracurricular activities knowledge, understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of our individual differences. We will strive to make the Patterson Mill years for your child the best years of their young lives with the promise of a bright and rewarding future!
