Welcome to Magnolia Elementary School where our mission is, “Reaching, Teaching, Learning … Changing Lives”.  It is our pleasure to serve our children as we strive to help each child achieve success academically and socially. We celebrate our richly diverse cultures and communities.

Our thoughtful educators are a professional learning community who collaborate, reflect, adapt, and focus their efforts to increase student achievement and success. Differentiated teaching and learning target student and staff needs. Staff development is guided by our school improvement plan which targets identified needs in reading, math, science and effective communication. Consistent review of data, “teachers talking to teachers about teaching,” best instructional practices, as well as efforts to strengthen parent and community involvement, are reflective of our continued growth.

As a Title I school we have many additional resources and programs to provide support for student achievement. Teacher specialists, para-educators, a Home Liaison are examples of the additional staffing. Additional programs include pre-kindergarten, after school academic support, and a daily intervention block that includes individualized programs that foster academic success providing appropriate levels of challenge for students at all levels. We offer access to two computer labs and mobile classroom computer labs, as well as, a school health readiness component. The identified additional resources and programs are integral to our school’s effectiveness in meeting children’s needs.

Our children, parents, and staff are involved in activities that promote self-esteem, academic success, and character education. The House initiative, Positive Behavior Intervention Support System (PBIS), our partnership with Young Audiences of Maryland, our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), our Family Involvement Team (FIT,) and our strong partnerships with faith based communities work in collaboration to support our School Improvement Plan and our volunteer program continues to grow.

Magnolia Elementary is a caring school family that celebrates the contributions of each school family member. As a result of our focus on supporting children and families, Magnolia was recognized as the 2015 ASCD Whole Child Award recipient. We were also recognized as a 2015 Maryland State School of Character and a 2015 National School of Character.
