School Structure:
Hickory Elementary S students benefit from a daily 50- minute special area class, with a weekly 50-minute art period. Grade level teams enjoy daily 50-minute planning blocks.
About our School:
Hickory Elementary School is organized as a Kindergarten through fifth grade school, housing over 650 students in a traditional classroom setting. As an inclusion school, our special needs students are served primarily in regular classrooms.
The building consists of over 70,000 square feet on 33 acres of land adjoining U.S. Business Route 1 and MD Route 543. Hickory Elementary serves communities within the Bel Air, Hickory, and Forest Hill areas.
We have a computer lab of 30 computers, all Internet linked via a high speed line. Hot meals are served daily. Approximately one-third of the students purchase lunch each day. A variety of lunches are offered to the students, with meal assistance for low-income families. A breakfast program is also available. Our cafeteria is computerized, allowing you to deposit money into an account for your child's meals in advance.
The school is supported by an active PTA that provides innumerable family and student activities and services, including cultural assemblies and field trips. The YMCA provides before and after school care onsite.
Community Involvement:
Hickory Elementary School students benefit from an active volunteer program and supportive PTA. An after-school homework program, provided by a local church, assists students beyond the school day. The YWCA provides before and after school care on site.
