School Structure:

A 7- 50 minute period day, which rotates weekly, offers block scheduling and planning time for common interdisciplinary teams, unified arts, and physical education. This time is spent with students and parents in planning quality instruction.

About our School:
Aberdeen Middle School Mascot

One only needs to walk through the doors of Aberdeen Middle School to feel the Eagle Pride that is experienced by our students and staff daily. The richness of the multi-cultural student body and staff is our strength. Students of varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds have learned to work together in a spirit of harmony and cooperation. Our talented teaching staff recognizes cultural diversity and learning styles of students as they work with students to reach a common educational goal and a sense of achievement. Special educators work cooperatively with teams of teachers to meet the instructional needs of all students. Our character education program, “Eagle Time,” focuses on developing self-respect and tolerance of others.

An active PTA, parent volunteers, and The Parent-School-Business Partnership Team vigorously support many educational programs and school-wide initiatives. Two foreign languages, algebra, and geometry are offered. Unified Arts classes include music, art, family and consumer science and technical education. Hundreds of students participate in band, chorus, and orchestra. Three full and one mini computer lab provides technical support for quality learning and instruction. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school program provide eight club selections that include tutoring and support from the City of Aberdeen and a variety of other local and national partnerships. The Student Weekend Assistance Team (S.W.A.T.) provides tutoring, mentoring, problem solving, and social skills development. African American men from a local community organization volunteer to assist teachers with the S.W.A.T. program. A partnership with Aberdeen Proving Ground provides field trips, supplies, and math and science engineers who volunteer time to meet with groups of students to mentor and to share various career opportunities.

Aberdeen Middle School is a place where “Cultural Diversity, Community, and Learning Converge as one.” Our goal is to educate all students in an environment that promotes self-confidence, acceptance, and achievement for everyone.

Community Involvment:

AMS is truly a community school. An active PTA vigorously supports all school programs. Band, chorus, and orchestra parents provide encouragement and support for activities such as concerts. Parents volunteer in the media center, office, and classrooms. African-American men volunteer as tutors and mentors for the Saturday Assistance Program.

A partnership with Aberdeen Proving Ground and the APGFCU has provided field trip opportunities and supplies for the school. The Lions Club fundraiser benefits AMS as well. AHS students fulfill community work service hours at AMS. The building is open for use by a local church, parks and recreation, and civic groups.
