Teacher of the Year Blog
8/20/2017
It’s scramble time! Some of us are scrambling into our classrooms trying to get a head start. Others (teachers who are new to the county) are scrambling to a variety of new teacher professional development opportunities, some of us are scrambling to our final vacation destinations or trying to check off those “summer to do” lists. You know those lists. The one you make at the end of the school year of all the things are going to accomplish over the summer because you don’t have enough time during the school year – and then somehow the summer takes over with its priorities. Finally, perhaps on August 21st, around 2:44 p.m., you will scramble outside to view the eclipse. (with the proper eye wear of course).
As you scramble around doing whatever it is you are doing to prepare yourself for the upcoming school year, remember to slow down, and enjoy it. One of my favorite aspects of preparing for the school year is setting up the classroom for the year. I prefer to go in ahead of time when its quieter and I can move at a slower pace. I also look at things at the classroom with fresh eyes. The items I've had for a few years, maybe it's time to improve it or rethink I want it to be utilized. This year, I am trying a new classroom setup based on the information I have received about student needs and preferences. Teaching with it's breaks and new beginnings affords us the opportunity to rejuvenate and start anew.
This has been the longest summer (and while I love the summer and have enjoyed every moment), I am so excited to see the best part of teaching- the students!
