Equity and Cultural Proficiency

The goal of the Office of Equity and Cultural Proficiency is to improve academic performance for all students through the efficient and effective use of resources and the delivery of instruction that is culturally proficient.

The Superintendent’s Cultural Proficiency Council is composed of diverse community leaders and parents who meet monthly and serve as advisors to the Superintendent of Harford County Public Schools. Contact the Office of Equity and Cultural Proficiency for meeting dates and locations.

Education That is Multicultural in the Classroom of the 21st Century Course/Cultural Proficiency Staff Development: All new professional staff in Harford County Public Schools are required to take a three-credit in-service course entitled Education That Is Multicultural in the Classroom of the 21st Century within the first two years of employment. The syllabus for this course matches the criteria developed by the ETM Council and approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. Cultural proficiency staff development is provided to all new support staff including bus drivers, food and nutrition workers, custodians, clerical and instructional employees. The focus is the development of culturally proficient teachers, administrators, and support staff.
