High School Athletes Join Elementary School Block Parties!
Edgewood High School and Edgewood Elementary School
School is an exciting place where students are challenged to meet a variety of goals in areas that will benefit them in life.  At Edgewood Elementary School, students who have displayed positive citizenship and met their behavior goals are treated to a block party.  Block parties are monthly celebrations that are full of crafts, games, and other activities that teachers and staff host.  Students can sign up for an activity of their choosing throughout the month.  This year, Edgewood High School scholar athletes were added to celebrate alongside these deserving elementary students.

The Edgewood High School Principal, Sandra McMichael explains, “In an effort to build a strong partnership with our feeder elementary schools, Edgewood High School scholar athletes have been working with Edgewood Elementary School since this past fall.  Groups of EHS high school students travel to the elementary school and work collaboratively with teachers and students during their Block Party student incentive days.  They help teachers run the stations, work one-on-one with students, and promote good sportsmanship, good school citizenship, and positive school experiences.”
A couple of the scholar-athletes shared their thoughts about the experience:
Shane Tressler- Junior, Football/Wrestling- “Assisting at an elementary school is an amazing experience because you get to make a positive impact on young minds. It's a chance to inspire and encourage the next generation, and there's something truly special about seeing their faces light up with excitement when they learn something new. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to be a role model and help shape their future. It's a rewarding and fulfilling way to give back to the community!”
Brielle Whitworth- Junior, Cross Country/ Indoor Track State Champion/ Outdoor Track -"I like assisting at the Edgewood Elementary School because I love taking time out of my day to make the students happy and help the teachers make the students happy."
James Slaten- Junior, Boys Volleyball/Baseball - “The kids are great! love helping the Little Ram Community.”
Erika Jones, the Community School Specialist at Edgewood Elementary said this about the collaboration, “Our students absolutely love having "the big kids" there with them, and they look forward to seeing their new friends each month. Teachers report that the EHS students were patient, respectful, helpful and do a fantastic job working with our kids. We know that seeing these tremendous role models helps our students to look forward into their future as high schoolers.”
