Hickory Elementary School is a place where ALL students become successful, life-long learners, responsible citizens and healthy individuals.  Students are eager to learn. Teachers and support staff are actively engaged in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) which allow us to stay abreast of research-based instructional strategies. Continuous assessment of students’ strengths and areas in need of improvement, through the Classroom Focused Improvement Process (CFIP), leads to effective instructional practices. With a focus on differentiation, we have been able to provide effective and appropriate instruction for each student’s developmental level. Students greatly benefit from this collaborative and adaptive approach to teaching and learning.  Hickory Elementary is a proud member of Harford County’s STRIVE program, working daily to meet the needs of these unique learners.

Our block schedule provides large periods of predictable, uninterrupted instructional time, making it possible for students’ needs to be addressed through regrouping, intervention, or enrichment.

Hickory Elementary enjoys a strong and well-organized Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and volunteer group. Fundraising, student recognition, and supporting many special events, are just a few of the activities of these groups.  Convenient for our school community, the Hotspots program provides before and after school care onsite.

Motivated students, a dedicated staff, a great deal of family involvement, and high expectations from all stakeholders contributed to Hickory Elementary School being recognized as one of Maryland’s Blue Ribbon Schools in 2007 and in September 2008 Hickory was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.  With great pride in 2013, Hickory was identified as an EGATE school or a school exemplifying Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education.

Hickory Elementary is a comprehensive school, fully dedicated to meeting the needs of many different types of learners.  Come and see what we do, we love to show off!!
